Robert Sorby 3/4" Hardwood / Negative Rake Scraper 821H - Handled

• We've changed the name of this tool to suit its wider application. Formerly known as the Hardwood Scraper it was originally designed to tackle hardwoods when producing musical instruments. However, the tool is equally at home on all types of wood and is as effective on spindle work as it is on bowls - the action of the negative rake on the bevel reducing the risk of grain tear-out and leaving a polished surface that requires little or no sanding.
• The Hardwood Scraper is different in that it has a negative rake on the bevel. It is designed to reduce or eliminate tear-out of the fibres of wood leaving a highly polished surface on all types of wood. This feature is particularly highly sought after by those working in the typically hard woods like African Blackwood. Musical instrument makers find the Hardwood Scraper a particularly useful addition to their collection of lathe tools. It is equally effective on spindle and faceplate work. The micro version is ideal for working on smaller projects like pens or dolls house miniatures
• When using the Hardwood Scraper, the tool rest should be below centre
• Make first contact with the heel of tool on your wood
• Many turners prefer to turn their tool handles to their own specifications. For those turners we offer here the un-handled versions of Sorby's standard turning tools. These High Speed Steel (HSS) un-handled blades are identical to the ones found on the handled versions.
• The blade listed here will also fit the Sorby Sovereign System Handles. A Collet Adapter may be required if used with the Sovereign System. Check your manual for the size collet required if, any.
• Tools with handles are coded with an H.
