• The Robert Sorby Excelsior medium tear drop cutter provides a multi-facetted, highly efficient cutting edge in a durable coating. As with all teardrop cutters, the shape effectively converts the tool into a round, half-round or square scraper suitable for use on the inside or outside of bowls, platters and hollow forms. Use the straight edge on outside curves and the rounded shapes for internal curved shapes. A great all rounder that supports traditional scraping and shear scraping techniques.
• Titanium Nitride (TiN): TiN is bonded onto quality HSS. It provides the same advantages as HSS whilst enhancing the cutting life to close to that of tungsten carbide. Use the same traditional sharpening equipment used for HSS. Sharpens to 0.15 – 0.2 microns. Hardness of coating up to 85 RC. Material:Titanium nitride coated M2 HSS.
• This cutter is also available in high speed steel.
• Sharpening: Use a diamond file or honing stone around the profile of the cutter. To gain best results and increase the longevity of the cutter this simple procedure should be done little and often.
• Please note, cutters can be sharpened using the Robert Sorby 472 tip holder.
