M - Glossary of Woodworking Terms

 Melamine: A form of plastic resin. In construction, melamine laminate is used as an overlay for sheet materials such as MDF, giving it a smooth and attractive appearance.

 Mitre Joint: The joining together of two pieces of wood, usually but not necessarily, 45 degrees . A picture frame is a typical example.

 Mortise: A rectangular hole or slot cut into wood that will receive a 'tenon' to make a right-angle joint, or to receive ironmongery such as a lock.

 Moulding: General term for a wood surface profile, or a narrow strip. that is principally used for decoration.
