This incredibly popular and versatile cutter shape delivers on multiple levels. Use the straight side for scraping and shear scraping outside forms, and the curved edge for scraping and shear scraping inside forms.
TiN is bonded onto quality HSS. It provides the same advantages as HSS whilst enhancing the cutting life close to that of tungsten carbide. Use the same traditional sharpening equipment used for HSS.
The Round is a general purpose cutter for the rapid removal of material inside and outside bowls and hollow forms. It works equally efficiently on spindle work. The Detail Point offers an excellent choice for roughing down square stock to round and for creating fine detail, while the Square is useful for generating square shoulders on tenons. It is also excellent for spindle work. Both the Square and Round cutters deliver an extremely fine finish that requires little or no sanding when the TurnMaster is switched to shear scraping mode.
The French Curve is perfect for shear scraping inside forms such as egg cups and goblet whilst the Teardrop, a popular cutter choice, is ideal for a range of finishing sweeping cuts inside or outside forms. The Mushroom cutter is great for undercutting, and Dovetail (or box scraper) is a model choice for creating parallel side walls and 90 degree corners in boxes.
Sharpening: Use a diamond file or diamond plate flat across the top face. To gain best results and increase the longevity of the cutter this simple procedure should be done little and often. Use the TurnMaster cutter holder to reshape the profile on the Robert Sorby ProEdge using a diamond belt or on a grinding wheel using diamond or other high density abrasive material. Sharpens to: 0.15 -0.2 microns Hardness: 85 RC Material: Titanium nitrade on M2 HSS.
